Editor, NIATx and ATTC Network Coordinating Office
ATTC Network serves the 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Pacific Islands of Guam, American Samoa, Palau, the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, and the Mariana Islands.
But did you know that the Network includes international Centers?
The Vietnam-HIV Addiction Technology Transfer Center (VHAATC) in Hanoi was established in 2011 with support from the President's Emergency Plan for Aids Relief (PEPFAR) and SAMHSA.
An additional VHATTC site opened in Ho Chi Minh City in 2014. And in 2016, the Southeast Asia Regional HIV ATTC was established in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
More international ATTC sites will be joining the Network in 2017: Ukraine and South Africa.ATTC Network Coordinating Office Director Laurie Krom visited all three sites in the fall of 2016. Stories unite us: In My Own Words Essay Contest Deadline: December 31, 2016
The international growth of the ATTC Network highlights the reality that substance use disorders and related illnesses such as HIV and Hepatitis C are global problems. Stigma, lack of access to effective treatment, and the risk of infectious disease or overdose affect people everywhere.
Personal stories of recovery have the power to transform lives, no matter where you live.
That's one reason why our 2016 National Recovery Month "In My Own Words" essay contest invites entries from across the globe. There's still time to submit an entry: the deadline is December 31, 2016. Just 300 words will give you a chance to win one of three top prizes.
Maybe your story will be the one that inspires someone else to seek treatment and recovery.
